STITCHED HEART

Armand Verdier, well respected for his unfaltering stitching will offer a class where students will traditionally stuff and stitch a small heart shaped practice frame. Although small, the frame contains many difficult areas, which many experienced practitioners of the trade often struggle with. Tackling small circular shapes and acute internal and external corners. This project is both tricky and fun, and where students will learn the fundamentals of stuffing and stitching in horsehair.

AMERICAN SPRUNG EDGE

A sprung edge seat offers unparalleled comfort in comparison to a hard edge. In this class, Bruno Paulin Lopez will instruct on the application of a sprung edge in North American fashion. Differing in many ways from the execution of sprung edges in many other countries, the American sprung edge will see students working on a frame with an application of coil and torsion springs, 8-way tied with a fox edge, ready for the application of upholstery. Bruno will guide the students through both the process and the theory behind the skills required for a professional finish, bolstered by the experience he has accumulated through his long working career.

ASPECTS OF DEEP BUTTONING

In this course, Gareth Rees will cover the many aspects of deep buttoning/tufting. Using basic geometry Gareth will teach students how to create a clean, machine buttoned finish in calico providing a foundation that is set in place in advance of the addition of the top fabric. Working through plain and offset buttoning patterns in foam, Gareth will also explain the extended theory as to its application to concave and more difficult patterns.

Gareth will also offer an evening lecture and demonstration of the techniques being used over traditional fillings.
